Tuesday, May 6, 2014 Meeting Minutes
Present: Nancy Colson, Charlotte Gollnick, Jan Jensen, Colleen Maloney, DeNae McGee, Feney Perez,
Ronie Schwend, Arts Coordinator, Maija McKnight. Excused: Nickole Evans -Buck, Dan Norman, Donna
Smart, Laura Westergard, Greg Watson.
1. Call to Order, Approval of Minutes, Introductions and Approval of Minutes:
Chair Colleen called the meeting to order at 4:35 pm. Commissioner Schwend moved to approve the
April 2014 meeting minutes. Commissioner Colson seconded the motion. All approved. Motion
approved.
2. Performing Arts 2014 -15 Season
Staff Maija McKnight provided an overview of the history of the BRAVO Performing Arts Season and the
Auburn Avenue Theater programming and outlined of some of the goals and rational in which
programming decisions are made. Jim Kleinbeck, Theater Coordinator, provided an overview of all the
programming that will be offered as part of the performing arts season from September 2014 — June
2015. The performances include a variety of types and styles and have new talent and past favorites.
Highlights of the season include the wide variety of tribute artists that will be performing, the popular
Comedy at the Ave series and the Ave Kids Series. The contracts for the performances are currently
being completed, and staff are working on writing descriptions for the performances and working towards
a season brochure and marketing materials that will be widely distributed in August. McKnight reminded
the commission that the Auburn Performing Arts Center will be closed for renovation for all of next year
and noted that some bookings have been made for the 2015/2016 season.
McKnight noted that screening films has had mixed audience draw and discussion continued on ideas for
continuing to screen films at the Auburn Avenue Theater. Ideas included pairing films with book clubs,
comicon /anime films, documentaries, classic horror film series, sci fi film series, and foreign films.
