AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, CREATING
THE AUBURN CENTENNIAL COMMISSION, DEFINING DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS OF
THE COMMISSION AND ESTABLISHING METHODS OF APPOINTING MEMBERS TO THE
COMMISSION.
WHEREAS, the City of Auburn shall celebrate the centennial of the incor-
poration of the City in 1991; and
WHEREAS, the State of Washington shall celebrate the centennial of its
statehood in 1989; and
WHEREAS, there is a need to recognize each separate occasion in
celebration; and
WHEREAS, there is a need to recognize, record, and honor the past; and
WHEREAS, there is a need to establish a permanent legacy for future genera-
tions in Auburn; and
WHEREAS, there is a need to support, nurture, and coordinate activities
surrounding the centennial celebration; and
WHEREAS, a there is a need to contribute to the quality and significance of
the celebration in cooperation with the schools, service organizations, and
historical societies.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: There is hereby created a centennial commission to be known as
the Auburn Centennial Commission.
Section 2. Within funds appropriation, the centennial commission may,
alone or in cooperation with any other private, civic or public body of any
city, county, the State of Washington, or the United States of America, ini-
tiate, sponsor, or conduct programs calculated to further public awareness of
and interest in the city and state centennial.
Section 3. The membership of the centennial commission shall consist of
30 members to be appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the City
Council. All appointments shall be made for the duration of the commission

which shall last until December 31, 1991. In addition to the 30 appointed
members, one member of the City Council shall be designated by the Mayor to
serve as ex officio member of the centennial commission.
Section 4. The chair or co-chair shall be appointed by the Mayor. The
vice -chair shall be selected from the commission by the chair. Any other of-
ficers that the commission wishes to establish shall be elected by the com-
mission.
Section 5. An executive committee shall be established. The commission
members will elect 9 members for this committee. Membership shall include the
vice -chair, all additional officers chosen by the commissin and all commission
sub -committee chairs.
Section 6. A majority of the current appointed and confirmed members of
the commission shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business. All
official actions of the commission shall require a majority vote of the mem-
bers present and voting.
Section 7. The commission shall meet at least quarterly for the purpose
of coordinating centennial activities and conducting other business. All
meetings of the commission and its sub -committees shall be advertised and open
to the public. The commission shall conduct meetings governed by the latest
edition of Roberts Rules of Order, as amended, and shall keep written minutes
of its proceedings, which shall be of public record.
Section 8. If any commission member shall have more than three con-
secutive absences for regular meetings, the chair will notify the member con-
cerning the absences. The commission may, at its discretion, ask the Mayor to
replace said member and appoint a replacement for said member.
Section 9. The centennial commission shall not incur any indebtedness on
behalf of the City without express approval of the Mayor and the City Council.
Section 10. The Mayor is hereby authorized to implement such administra-
tive procedures as may be necessary to carry out the directions of this
legislation.

Section 11. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force five (5) days
from and after its passage, approval and publication, as provided by law.

City of Auburn, a Municipal Corporation and Code City, situate in the
County of King, State of Washington, do hereby certify that the foregoing
is a full, true and correct copy of ordinance No. 4263 of the ordinances of
the City of Auburn, entitled "AN ORDINANCE."
I certify that said Ordinance No. 4263 was duly passed by the Council
and approved by the Mayor of the said City of Auburn, on the 1st day of February
A.D., 1988.
I further certify that said Ordinance No. 4263 was published as pro-
vided by law in the Valley News, a daily newspaper published in the City of
Auburn, and of general circulation therein, on the 7th day of February A.D.,
1988.
