AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON AMENDING
SECTION 13.16.020 ENTITLED "DEFINITIONS" AND SECTION
13.16.100 ENTITLED "FIRE FLOW REQUIREMENTS" CONTAINED IN
CHAPTER 13.16 ENTITLED "AUBURN FIRE HYDRANT/ACCESS
ORDINANCE" BY AMENDING AND DELETING CERTAIN LANGUAGE IN
ORDER TO CONFORM TO CERTAIN REQUIREMENTS IN SUBSECTION
15.08.010 D OF THE AUBURN CITY CODE.
WHEREAS, the City of Auburn desires to amend Auburn
City Code Section 13.16.020 entitled "Definitions" and
Auburn City Code Section 13.16.100 entitled "Fire Flow
Requirements" contained in Chapter 13.16 entitled "Auburn
Fire Hydrant/Access Ordinance" by amending and deleting
certain language in order to conform to certain requirements
in Auburn City Code Subsection 15.08.010(D);
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN,
WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. PURPOSE. The purpose of this ordinance is
to amend Auburn City Code Section 13.16.020 entitled
"Definitions" and Section 13.16.100 entitled "Fire Flow
Requirements" contained in Chapter 13.16 entitled "Auburn
Fire Hydrant/Access Ordinance" by amending and deleting
certain language in order to conform to certain requirements
in Auburn City Code Subsection 15.08.010 D.
Section 2. AMENDMENT. Auburn City Code Section
13.16.020 entitled "Definitions" contained in Chapter 13.16

entitled "Auburn Fire Hydrant/Access Ordinance" is hereby
amended as follows:
13.16.020 Definitions.
For the purpose of this chapter, the following
words, terms, phrases, and their derivations shall have
the meaning given in this section, unless the context
otherwise indicates. When not inconsistent with the
context, words used in the present tense include the
future; words in the plural number include the singular
number; and words in the singular number include the
plural number. The word "shall" is always mandatory.
A. "A.P.W.A." means the American Public Works
Association.
B. "A.W.W.A." means the American Water Works
Association.
C. "Fire chief" means the city fire chief or his
appointee.
D. "Fire department" means the city fire department.
E. "Fire flow" means the measure of the sustained
flow of available water for firefighting of a
specific building or within a specific area at
((ten)) twenty pounds per square inch residual
pressure, and shall be corrected to the lowest
gallonage available based on peak -period demands
and seasonal demands.
F. "Flush -type hydrant" means a hydrant installed
entirely below grade.
G. "Private hydrant" means a fire hydrant situated
and maintained to provide water for firefighting
purposes with restrictions as to use. The
location may be such that it is not readily
accessible for immediate use by the fire authority
for other than certain private property.
H. "Public hydrant" means a fire hydrant situated and
maintained to provide water for firefighting
purposes without restriction as to use for that
purpose. The location is such that is accessible
for immediate use of the fire authority at all
times.
I. "U.B.C." means the Uniform Building Code,
including amendments, as adopted by the city.
J. "U.L." means the Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc.

K. "Water authority" means the city water division of
the department of public works, or any other
municipal or quasi -municipal entity distributing
water to fire hydrants within the city.
Section 3. AMENDMENT. Auburn City Code Section
13.16.100 entitled "Fire Flow Requirements" contained in
Chapter 13.16 entitled "Auburn Fire Hydrant/Access
ordinance" is hereby amended as follows:
13.16.100 Fire Flow Requirements
The fire flow requirements of a building,
structure, storage pile, or area shall be based on

adopted in Auburn City Code subsection 15.08.010 D
which is hereby adopted by reference.
Section 4. CONSTITUTIONALITY OR INVALIDITY. If any
section, subsection, clause or phrase of Section 13.16.020
or 13.16.100 is for any reason held to be invalid or
unconstitutional, such invalidity or unconstitutionality
shall not affect the validity or constitutionality of the
remaining portions of the sections, it being hereby
expressly declared that each section, subsection, sentence,
clause and phrase hereof would have been prepared, proposed,
adopted and approved and ratified irrespective of the fact
that any one or more section, subsection, sentence, clause
or phrase be declared invalid or unconstitutional.
Section 5. The Mayor is hereby authorized to implement
such administrative procedures as may be necessary to carry
out the directions of this legislation.

Section 6. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in
force five days from and after its passage, approval and
publication as provided by law.
