The Auburn Garden Club donates money each year to purchase the tree, this year the board decided they can choose the species as well. The board viewed the 11 minute training video regarding OPMA and PRA training. VI. Board Recommendations/Input Chair Landrud reports the Asian hornet has made its way from Europe to Vancouver and Bellingham, soon to arrive locally. The hornet measures 3” long and enjoys eating honey bees and taking over their hives. When they sting people, it’s highly likely to be a trip to the hospital. The USDA is working on a solution to eradicate these insects but it takes time. Bryce Landrud was asked to evaluate a maple tree on hole #9 at the Auburn Golf Course. The tree is a key element on #9 and is not doing well. The strategy is to perform a root renovation to give the tree a boost for better overall health. VII. Department Report Horticulturist Valenti has received a donation of 4 small Sequoia trees. They will grow in pots for a while, then may plant at Les Gove Park. The grant date for the mason bee project has been extended to March 15. If the Auburn Garden Club does receive the grant it will be too late to set up Mason Bee houses. The AGC still hopes to purchase supplies needed with donations and the grant funds, if awarded, can be used next year. VIII. Adjournment The meeting adjourned at 3:15.
