Call to Order 5:35 pm Present were members: Michael Hassen (chair), Katie Helton, Wayne Osborne, Mike Palko-Dean, Lisa Russell, Bailey Stober. Department staff present were Parks Director Daryl Faber and Parks Administrative Assistant Julie Mehl. II. Minutes The March minutes were approved. III. Committee Member Input IV. Correspondence/Public Input V. Old Business The Arts & Culture Center has received $600,000 in funds to date. There is a new $40,000 grant request in for the repair of the cupola, will learn results in Fall. The Auburn International Farmers Market opened in June with safety rules in place. There are 28 vendor booths and crafters will soon be allowed to join. There will be no demonstrations or entertainment this year. VI. New Business Pickle ball lines for four courts have been painted at the Game Farm Park tennis courts. The Culvert Project near the Auburn Golf Course and Mary Olson Farm will begin in August. Mountain View Cemetery has had 2 miles of overlay done. VII. Department Report (Faber) A $125,000 King County Youth Sports Grant for a mixed pump bike track at Cedar Lanes Park was approved. King County Levy funds will be used as well. The City is waiting to hear the results of a $350,000 State grant for the water line at the bridge south of Game Farm Park. The results should be available in the Fall. The City will match some funding with park impact fees along with a $500,000 grant received for Jacobson Tree Farm. The first phase will include a playground, meadow, parking & dog area. The second phase will include a sports component. The City is planning on painting the Auburn Ave Theater after the alleyway mural is complete. COVID-19 Update: The City of Auburn faces a $6 million budget shortfall due to closures and cancellations. A furlough has been instigated, 8 – 10 positions are frozen and many employees are on a work/share program. City facilities have been closed since March. Park restrooms were closed as there was no way to clean/sanitize properly. Large Special Events have been cancelled and staff is working hard to keep citizens engaged virtually. Summer camp participants are down to 50 this year vs. hundreds in past years. In May the Auburn Golf Course and the Game Farm Wilderness Campground opened. The Senior Center food program is delivering 1,000 meals per week in efforts to help keep senior citizens at home. Staff is regularly reaching out to 700 + participants to keep them engaged and help support their needs. VIII. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 pm. Parks and Recreation Board Meeting Minutes Wednesday, September 9, 2020 5:30 p.m. Virtual Via Zoom I. Call to Order 5:35 pm Present were members: Katie Helton, Lisa Russell. Department staff present were Parks Director Daryl Faber, Parks Planning Manager Jamie Kelly and Parks Administrative Assistant Julie Mehl. Also present was Seattle resident Rob Davis. II. Minutes The previous minutes were not approved as there was no quorum. III. Committee Member Input IV. Correspondence/Public Input Rob Davis attended the meeting to express concerns about safety at the Dykstra Footbridge. V. Old Business VI. New Business Two grants have been submitted; one for a bridge connecting Game Farm Park to Game Farm Wilderness Park, the other for the development of Jacobson Tree Farm. VII. Department Report (Faber) A new program called “Between the Bell” will be offered for families who need help with the current virtual school situation. We are also starting some virtual fitness classes. Staff is brainstorming ideas for alternative Veterans Day Parade ideas. Director Faber suggests Park Board members attend the next virtual study session as he will be presenting Parks updates. VIII. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 pm.
