Re: Letter of Understanding Related to Roadway Maintenance, Auburn Fire Station
#33, Application #640475, parcel #0520051032.
Dear Mr. Roscoe:
Valley Regional Fire Authority (VRFA) is constructing a new fire station at the
intersection of 4th Street East and 182nd Avenue East. 182nd Avenue East is a County
road maintained by Pierce County; currently 4th Street East is an unopened County right-
of-way.. Per September 16, 2008, correspondence from Pierce County Traffic
Engineering to Cynthia Levey -Jose of Warner Engineering, additional right-of-way is
needed on both roads to meet County road standards and, on 182nd Street E, to contain
frontage improvements required of VRFA as part of its development.
The fire station property, parcel 0520051032, is within the City of Auburn. The
additional right of way required, 10 feet along the frontage of 182nd Avenue East and 30
feet along the frontage of 4th Street East as described in the September 16
correspondence, will remain within the City and will be dedicated as City right-of-way.
The dedication must be completed prior to final County approval of the frontage
improvement construction.
To provide continuity of service, the County will maintain the road surface, shoulders,
ditches, and drainage structures that are within the additional 10-foot portion of 182nd
Avenue East. The County will continue to be responsible for this maintenance until such
time as 182nd Avenue East is annexed into the City of Auburn. It is the County's
understanding that the City and/or VFRA will maintain the private driveway approach
---into-the-fire-station-that-is-being-constructed-in the-4th-Street East right -of way. —No ---- --
financial considerations are part of this letter of understanding.
