MINUTES
I. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Isaiah Johnson, called the meeting to order at 2:05 P.M. in the City of
Auburn Conference Room 3 located on the second floor of City Hall, 25 W . Main
Street, Auburn WA. Committee members present were: Isaiah Johnson, Terry
Hurlbut, and Nancy Colson. Staff members present included:

Resources Assistant, Jean Sumers.
II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Minutes of the March 14, 2017, meeting were reviewed. It was moved to
approve the minutes as submitted, followed by a unanimous vote.
III. DISCUSSION
The chair asked for discussion and review of the Compensation Comparison for
the Council members.
Per Aaron Barber, we did not have the 2018 comparison data of surrounding
cities, as Aaron had not been instructed to collect the data for 2018. I nstead, he
referred to the previous year (2017) of the 15 comparable jurisdictions. In 2017,
the average council salary was one thousand three hundred and forty eight
dollars ($1,348), the Median salary was one thousand two hundred and thirty four
dollars ($1,234) and the City of Auburn council salary was one thousand four
hundred and forty eight dollars ($1,448). Above the average and above the
median. At the March 14th, 2017 meeting, the committee approved a two
percent (2%) increase, which aligned with the Unaffiliated increase for 2017 . The
committee believes that Auburn is in the right place and compensating fairly
compared to other local jurisdictions.
It was moved to approve and proceed with a three percent (3%) increase for
2018, which aligns with the Unaffiliated increase for 2018. The councilmembers’
monthly salaries are approved to be increased to one thousand two hundred
eighty five dollars and ninety three cents ($1,285.93), and the Deputy Mayor’s
compensation is approved to be increased to one thousand seven hundred and
fourteen dollars and fifty eight cents ($1,714.58).
