CALL TO ORDER Chair Isaiah Johnson, called the meeting to order at 3:05 P.M. via a Zoom teleconference call. Committee members present were: Nancy Colson, Ronnie Beyersdorf, Kristin Small, and Judith Anderson. Staff members present included: Director of HR & Risk Management, Candis Martinson, and Assistant Director of HR, Aaron Barber. II. REVIEW OF THE PURPOSE, OPERATION, AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE INDEPENDENT SALARY COMMISSION Martinson had emailed the code stating the purpose of the Independent Salary Commission prior to the meeting to the commission. Colson asked if there were any revisions or changes to the code. Martinson responded that she did not believe so. Carlson read the purpose from the City code. There was a reminder that it was inappropriate for the commission to discuss with Councilmembers or the Mayor regarding the salaries and the decisions made by the Independent Salary Commission. III. REQUIRED TRAINING FOR THE INDEPENDENT SALARY COMMISSION The YouTube video was sent in advance of the meeting by Martinson. Beyersdorf stated that he had watched the video and sent an email to Tamie Bothell, Executive Assistant to the Mayor, stating so. All of the commissioners replied that they had also watched the video prior to the meeting. Martinson stated that the City Clerk had requested that the training was presented at the meeting and facilitated during the meeting so that it was recorded. However, the commissioners all stated that they had already watched the training video and would send an email with the date to the City Clerk stating that they had taken the training independently. Martinson said she would verify with the City Clerk that this was acceptable. IV. REVIEW OF CITY COUNCIL AND MAYOR SALARY FOR 2020/2021 There was discussion and comments made that due to Covid-19 and the uncertainties of the economic impact that now was not the correct time to increase compensation for the Mayor and Council. Page 1 It was moved by Colson for the Council and Mayor to keep their current salary structure. This was seconded by Anderson. It was voted and approved unanimously 5:0. V. SCHEDULING OF NEXT MEETING It was decided that there was no need to have another meeting in 2020. The Commission will meet again in 2021.
