GENERAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES:
1. All workmanship and materials shall conform to the City of
Auburn's requirements and specifications.
2. Standard Specifications shall be 1981 AMA as modified by
the City of Auburn, including Auburn's Standard drawings.
3. A copy of these approved plans shall be on -site during
construction.
•. Pre -construction meeting shall be required prior to any on -
site work for all Public Facility Extension projects
5. OR -CALL (1-800-424-5555) for utility locations (vater,
sanitary sever, storm sever, gas, power, telephone and
television).
6. During construction, Contractor shall be required to control
on -site storm water runoff by using temporary
erosion/siltation control procedures. No sediment laden
storm water shall be allowed to discharge into the City of
Auburn'z atom drainage system or onto adjacent properties.
7. Locations of existing utilities are approximate. It shall
be the Contractor's responsibility to determine the true
elevations and locations so as to avoid damage or
disturbance during construction.
a. Existing pavement surfaces shall be saw cut full depth with
straight, uniform edges. All joints between the new and
original pavement shall be painted with asphalt emulsion
(CSS-1).
9. The Contractor shall install, replace, or relocate all
signs, as shorn on the plans or as affected by construction,
Par the City's Standard detail.
10. Electric and telephone line shall be in a trench with a
minimum horizontal separation from other utilities (sever,
water, atom) of five feet.
11. All construction surveying for extensions of public
facilities shall be done under the direction of a licensed
lard surveyor or a licensed professional Civil Engineer.
12. During construction, all public streets adjacent to this
project shall be kept clean of all material deposits
resulting from on -site construction, as directed by the
City.
13. Certified Am -built drawings are required prior to project
acceptance. Refer to "Certified As -built Requirements".
le. when utility easements are required, the minimum width shall
be fifteen feet (15'), depending on depth and location, and
no permanent structure shall be constructed within a
distance of ten feet (10') of said easement.
15. The City of Auburn has established typical Trench Excavation
and Backfill Drawings to be used for the installation of
utilities. Refer to these drawings for details before
starting construction.
16. All required landscaping shall conform with City of Auburn
Zoning Ordinance, Section No. 18.50.
17. For MH s CB rim adjustment, maximum adjustment with brick of
rims and castings shall be fourteen inches (la") without
adding new sections.
18. All manholes and catch basins in public right-of-way or
easements shall be adjusted after asphalt paving.
WATER LINE CONSTRUCTION NOTES:
1. Refer to General Construction Notes for general
requirements.
2. Pipe for water mains shall be ductile iron meeting ANSI
Specifications A-21.51 of latest revisions and shall be
thickness Class 52. Pipe shall be cement-llnod, 1n
accordance with ANSI Specification A-21-4 of latest
revision.
3. All public water mains shall have a minimum cover of forty-
two inches (e2") unless outhorired by the City of Auburn.
a. Bedding for ductile iron pipe shall be 5/8" Minus Crushed
Rock six inches (6") under to six inches (6") minimum over
the pipe, unless otherwise approved by the City.
5. All pipe trench backfill material shall be Class "A" Bank
Run Gravel, modified by the City of Auburn.
6. Pipe trench backfill material within the right-of-way shall
bt 5/8" Minus Crushed Rock when connection is perpendicular
to the City street.
7. All valves for water lines shall be resilient wedge gate
valves for twelve inch (12") and smaller. Butterfly valves
shall be used when over twelve inches (12").
S. Joints, except where otherwise required or shown on the
drawings, shall be either mechanical bolted type, or push -on
rubber ring gasket type, conforming to American National
Standard A-21.11.
9. Pipe fittings shall be ductile iron and shall have the same
kind of coating, lining and strength as the pipe to which
connected and shall conform to ANSI Specifications A-21.10
and A-21.11 of latest revision.
10. Eydrostatic tests on the now pipe line shall be made in
accordance with the "Procedure for Water -Pressure Testing
Water Lines" and the latest provisions of AWWA C 600, except
as modified herein. All equipment necessary to make the
test shall be furnished by the Contractor, and the
Contractor shall conduct all tuts under the supervision of
the Engineer. Pressure tests shall be made on all piping
and appurtenances installed under this contract, including
all connection to existing mains at a minimum test pressure
of 200 psi.
11. Disinfection of the new water system shall be required prior
to connection to the existing water lines and shall be in
accordance with the latest provisions of AWWA C 601.
12. Installation of corporate stops, water services, lines and
meters shall be per City of Auburn Standard Details.
Services shall be a minimum 3/4 inch Type K copper tubing or
galvanized pipe. The City of Auburn will install the
meters. The City will install services from main line to
the meter when the existing water line is in an existing
City street.
13. Blocking for vertical and horizontal bends shall be per City
of Auburn Standard Details.
la. Contractor shall obtain any necessary water service
connection permits from the City of Auburn prior to
construction.
15. All valve boxes in public right-of-way or easements shall be
adjusted to final grade after final paving is complete.
16. Where the underground supply tees off to serve only a Fire
Sprinkler System, a separate and detailed plan must be
submitted and approved prior to installation by the Fire
Marshal.

17. Fire Bydrants -
A. Fire hydrant assemblies shall conform to City of Auburn
Standard Details.
B. Fire hydrant feed lines shall be installed at right
angles to the supply main in conformance with the 5
1/4" MVO Hydrant Setting Detail (City Standard Detail).
C. Hydrants shall stand plumb, set to finish grade with
the lowest outlet being no less than eighteen inches
(18") from finish grade, and a clear area around the
hydrant of no less than thirty-six inches (36").
D. Pumper port shall face street or fire access and be
readily accessible to any fire vehicle for fire
fighting and pumping operations.
E. Leads from the service main to the hydrant shall be no
leas than six inches (6") in diameter and any leads
over fifty feet (50') shall be not lose than eight
inches (a").
F. Fire hydrants shall be installed on eight Inches (B")
diameter or larger distribution supply mains.
G. Fire hydrants shall be installed at a minimum spacing
of 600 feet along streets in single-family zones and
300 feet in all other zones (on -site hydrants shall be
a maximum of 150 feet from furthest point on building).
H. Easements shall be a minimum 7 1/2 feet each side of
any hydrant.
SANITARY SEWER CONSTRUCTION NOTES:
1. Refer to General Construction Notes for general
requirements.
2. Sever lines shall be laid to the grades and elevations shown
on the drawings and shall not be changed without City -
approval.
3. Side sewer shall be installed from the City sewer main to
minimum of five feet IS') beyond the property line and shall
be a minimum six inches (6") in diameter with a one percent
(it) minimum slope.

Engineer, using commercially manufactured tees and shall be

rubber-gasketed joints. (The location of the side sewers
shall be marked at the and of the line inside property by a

5. Location of aide sewers shall only be changed as required
during construction upon authorization of City. Contractor
shall notify Engineer when exact locations are determined.
6. Contractor shall obtain any necessary side sever connection
Vomits from the City of Auburn prior to construction.
7. It shall be the Contractor's responsibility to insure that
no conflicts occur between sanitary sewer lines and proposed
or existing utility lines during construction.
a. Unless otherwise approved, all connections to existing sever
mein with new tees shall be don* by the City of Auburn. The
Contractor shall be responsible for pipe intallation, trench
excavation, back fill and pavement restoration.
9. Ten foot (101) horizontal separation shall be maintained as
a minimum between never and other existing or proposed
utilities.
10. One foot (1') vertical separation shall be maintained as a
minimum between sever and other utilities when a crossing of
utilities occurs. If one foot (11) minimum is not possible,
then a sand cushion shall be provided as directed by the
Engineer.
11. All connections of SDR 35 PVC pipe to manholes shall be made
by using A.C. or GPR manhole adaptors, or approved equal.
12. Pipe for sanitary sewer's shall be SDR 35 PVC when pipe cover
exceeds thirty-six (36") inches. Reinforced concrete sewer
pipe, SDR 21 PVC, or Ductile Iron Class 52 can be used when
approved, and primarily for oversizing pipe and deep or
shallow trenches.
13. The maximum laying lengths shall not exceed twelve feet six
inches (12'6") for SDR 35 pipe.
14. Bedding for PVC pipe shall be 5/8" Minus Crushed Rock, four
inches (•") under to six inches (6") minimum over the pipe.
15. Bedding for concrete and ductile iron pipe shall be 5/8"
Minus Crushed Rock, six inches (6") under to six inches (6")
minimum over the pipe.
16. All pipe trench backfill material shall be Class "A" Bank
Run Gravel, modified by the City of Auburn.
17. Pipe trench backfill material within the right-of-way shall
be 5/8" Minus Crushed Rock when connection is perpendicular
to the City street.
18. An oil/rater separator will be required to connect building
floor drains to the sanitary sever.
