HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-19-2023 Special City Council MeetingWASHINGTON CALL TO ORDER Special City Council Meeting May 19, 2023 - 8:00 AM Green River College - 12401 SE 320th St. Auburn, WA 98092 (Salish Hall Classroom No. 257) MINUTES Mayor Nancy Backus called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. at Green River College, 12401 SE 320th St. Auburn, WA 98092 in the Mel Lindbloom Student Union - River Room. A. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION Public Participation The Special City Council Meeting was held in person and virtually. B. Roll Call Councilmembers present: Deputy Mayor James Jeyaraj, Bob Baggett, Kate Baldwin, Larry Brown, Robyn Mulenga, and Cheryl Rakes. Councilmember Yolonda Trout -Manuel was excused. Department directors and staff members present included: City Attorney Kendra Comeau, Chief of Police Mark Caillier, Director of Equity and Inclusion Brenda Goodson -Moore, Director of Parks, Arts and Recreation Daryl Faber, Director of Public Works I ngrid Gaub, Director of Human Resources & Risk Management Candis Martinson, Director of Administration Dana Hinman, Director of Community Development Jeff Tate, Director of Finance Jamie Thomas, Director of Innovation and Technology David Travis, Director of Anti -Homelessness Kent Hay, Council Administrative Assistant Melissa Bailey, Communications Manager Jonathan Glover, IT Support Specialist Tristen Bennett, Business Systems Analyst Chrissy Malave, and City Clerk Shawn Campbell. II. DISCUSSION ITEMS A. Council Rules of Procedure Council discussed revision to the Council Rules of Procedure. B. Goal Prioritization Teams reported out on their combined goals including public safety, facilities, downtown revitalization, homelessness, affordable housing, revising Council Rules of Procedure, Staff providing information timely to Council, partnering with external partners, internship development, health Page 1 of 2 and climate equity, attaching new business, establishing Auburn's identity, neighborhoods, intentional development, crisis care centers diversity, and equity and inclusion. The participants discussed the breakdown of the goals, including public safety, compensation packages, homelessness, and community engagement. The participants closed with their feelings on the retreat. III. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to come before the Council, the meeting was adjourned at 12:53 p.m. APPROVED this 5th day of June, 2023.
