The grant would have the same submission date as the project grant and follow typical eligibility protocols. Commissioner Dwight made a motion to approve the new grant form. Commissioner De Leon seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. IV. Public Artwork Deaccession Proposals a. Arts Program Supervisor Allison Hyde presented the commission with a Public Artwork Deaccession Proposal for artwork titled “You Are Here – Millennium Sundial” by artist Ries Niemi. The artwork was commissioned 23 years ago and was created with timbers that were already 100 years old. The artwork has been temporarily repaired due to safety concerns and the cost to formally repair the piece outweighs the worth of the artwork. Elements of the artwork will be repurposed by the city, and the table will be converted to a large picnic table for the people of Les Gove Park to enjoy. Commissioner Olsen made a motion to approve the deaccession of the artwork. Commissioner Rau seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. b. Arts Program Supervisor Allison Hyde presented the commission with a second Public Artwork Deaccession Proposal for artwork titled “Centennial Mural” by artist Tom Teitge. The artwork was commissioned in 1989. The mural was painted on a wall that does not belong to the City and whose surface is no longer structurally sound and is crumbling apart. Hyde noted that many cities do not consider murals to be permanent collection artworks and assume they have a limited expected lifespan for care and maintenance responsibility. Deaccessioning this artwork would not alter the mural in any way, but rather remove the city of the responsibility of maintaining the artwork, allowing the mural’s future to be the responsibility or decision of the building owners. Commissioner Mayfield motioned to approve the deaccession of the artwork. Commissioner Rau seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. V. Updates and News a. Arts Program Supervisor Hyde shared updates on the city’s official grand opening date for the Postmark Center for the Arts: September 16, 2023, 11:00-3:00, and invited commissioners to attend or volunteer. b.
