APPROVAL OF MINUTES A. Minutes of the August 1, 2023, Fire Relief and Pension Board meeting. * (Recommendation: Board approve the August 1, 2023, minutes as distributed.) Page 2 IV. UNFINISHED BUSINESS V. NEW BUSINESS A. Approval of Claims Approval of Pension and Healthcare Benefit payments to Fire Relief and Pensioners for the period of July 1, 2023 through September 30, 2023 in the amount of $52,542.44. (Recommendation: Board approve the pension and healthcare benefit payments through September 30, 2023) B. Election for the 2024-2025 Board Member Position Board Secretary Campbell to inform Boardmembers of the timeline for the election. VI. ADJOURNMENT FIRE RELIEF AND PENSION BOARD August 1, 2023, 2:30 PM VIRTUAL AND IN PERSON COUNCIL CHAMBER – AUBURN CITY HALL MINUTES I. CALL TO ORDER Mayor Nancy Backus called the meeting to order at 2:45 p.m. The meeting was held virtually and in person. Fire Relief and Pension Board Members present included Mayor Backus, Finance Director Thomas, Fire Relief Pension retiree Bob Wigley. Fire Relief and Pension retiree Bill Petersen. II. VIRTUAL PARTICIPATION The meeting was held virtually and in person. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A. Minutes of the February 7, 2023 Fire Relief and Pension Board meeting. Motion by Member Wigley, second by Member Petersen to approve the February 7, 2023 minutes. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. 4-0 IV. UNFINISHED BUSINESS There was no unfinished business. V. NEW BUSINESS A. Approval of Claims Motion by Member Petersen, second by Member Wigley to approve the expenses of the Fire Relief and Pension Fund. Director Thomas stated the report shows overpayments that the members will be required to repay. The members have been informed of the overpayment and letters will be sent informing the members of the new payment amounts. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. 4-0 B. Increase in Benefits Director Thomas informed the Board the scheduled increases for surviving spouses will take place in July of 2023 per the State statute. Page 2 VI. Approval of Claims 2023 payments not yet approved: $46,451.22 has been paid in fire pension benefits for the pay period July 1, 2023 – September 30, 2023 and $6,091.05 has been paid July 1, 2023 – September 30, 2023 for healthcare benefits. The amounts paid are net of amounts collected back from previous overpayments. A total of $3,258.96 was collected back from 8 pensioners.
