HomeMy WebLinkAbout6919 ORDINANCE NO. 6919 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, ESTABLISHING THE LEVY FOR REGULAR PROPERTY TAXES BY THE CITY OF AUBURN FOR COLLECTION IN 2024 FOR GENERAL CITY OPERATIONAL PURPOSES IN THE AMOUNT OF $24,646,712 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Auburn has met and considered its budget for the calendar year 2024; and WHEREAS, pursuant to RCW 84.55.120 the City Council held public hearings November 20, 2023, after proper notice was given, to consider the City of Auburn's 2023-2024 mid-biennial budget review and the regular property tax levy to support it; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Auburn, after public hearing, and after duly considering all relevant evidence and testimony presented, has determined that the City of Auburn requires property tax revenue and any increase of new construction and improvements to property, any increase in the value of state-assessed property, annexations, and any refund levies in order to discharge the expected expenses and obligations of the City and in its best interest; and NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Regular property taxes for collection in the City of Auburn for the year 2024 are authorized in the amount of $24,646,712. Not including the addition of new construction and improvements to property, any increases related Ordinance No. 6919 November 16, 2023 Page 1 of 3 to the value of state assessed property, and any refund levies available, the regular property tax levy for 2024 collection represents an increase from regular property taxes levied for collection in 2023 of $288,808 which includes a 1.0% increase in revenue from the previous year, plus $45,229 in banked capacity from the previous year. Section 2. Implementation. The Mayor is hereby authorized to implement those administrative procedures necessary to carry out the directions of this legislation. Section 3. Severability. The provisions of this ordinance are declared to be separate and severable. The invalidity of any clause, sentence, paragraph, subdivision, section or portion of this ordinance, or the invalidity of the application of it to any person or circumstance will not affect the validity of the remainder of this ordinance, or the validity of its application to other persons or circumstances. This Ordinance will take effect and be in force five days from and after its passage, approval and publication as provided by law.
