III. AGENDA
• Miscellaneous
Emily Pearson announced to the Committee that Erica Azcueta had been
promoted to Human Services Manager as of April 1, 2016.
Appointment recommendations: Erica Azcueta announced the two
candidates for appointment to the Human Services Committee, Leticia
Figueroa and Dana Riel. Chair Jason Berry thanked the group for their
input and recommendations and that the final decision was taken from all
members' suggestions. Erica noted that both appointees live in Auburn
and are actively involved in the community. Ms. Figueroa was a member
of the Mayor's Homeless Task Force and Dana Riel's daughter is a
current member of the Auburn Jr. Council. JoAnne Walters asked if we
might open the recruitment process again. Jason said that the process to
expand the quorum requires Council Resolution, and that we can revisit
that option in the near future. Erica will email the new appointees to
schedule time for them to meet with Mayor Backus, if necessary, prior to
their appointments at a future Council meeting.
Discussion of agencies/programs to interview for consideration of the
2017-2018 funding cycle: Erica noted that we must give equal time to
each agency for presentations and that 10-15 minutes should be an
adequate amount of time (5 minutes to present and 10 minutes for Q&A).
Jason asked the group to provide recommendations on which programs
they'd like more information about. JoAnne suggested that each presenter
bring an individual they'ye served from the Auburn community. Jason
asked how we address incomplete applications, and Erica said there are
two fair options: decline the program's request, or have them present
orally. Maryelyn Scholz stated that she strongly feels timelines are
important for an applicant to follow. Barbara mentioned that duplication of
services should also be strongly considered.
After taking comments from the Committee, a list of 16 programs was
compiled. Erica will schedule appointments for presentations over the
course of the next three (3) Human Services Committee meetings (June
27, July 25 and August 22). These meetings will most likely change to
accommodate a 2-hour block of time.
