AGENDA • 2018 Retreat follow-up Joy Scott opened the meeting by thanking the committee members for their hard work and • extra effort over the last few months. Despite difficult conversations and varying perspectives, everyone contributed to help shape the revised priorities for the upcoming 2019-2020 funding cycle. Chair Jason Berry noted that he appreciated the growing dialogue between committee members and councilmembers and looks forward to more open communication in the future. • Outreach strategies for member recruitment Joy advised the group that council had approved the expansion of committee membership from 7 to 9. With the withdrawal of Leticia Figueroa in January, there are now 3 open spots that need to be filled. Emily Pearson explained the process they'd followed a few years back when there were open committee spots. The committee would like more diversity and representation that's reflective of Auburn. Once the call for applicants goes out, Joy will send the information along to other human services groups such as the Auburn Roundtable, the Mayor's Homeless Task Force and the South King County Forum on Homelessness. Information will be posted on the City's Community Services Facebook page. Joy will look into the possibility of having an ad published in the Auburn Reporter. Dana Hinman said that members can push out information any way they choose to spread the word. Lela Brugger expressed the importance of having representation from students, men, and other diverse populations. JoAnne Walters asked if applicants must work in or be residents of the City; Emily will check with the City Attorney for more specifics. Dana Riel spoke about her experience with applying for the committee. Lela also suggested contacting someone at the Auburn School District; Emily said that Denise Daniels is the ASD's diversity liaison and is also on the Mayor's Homeless Task Force. Muckleshoot tribal members and past Civics Academy students are other groups to reach out to. Regarding the timeline for recruitment, the group discussed that summer may be the best time to recommend members because they'd start after the lengthy process of reviewing applications for the upcoming funding cycle. • 2018 timeline overview Emily distributed a calendar with items of note throughout 2018. She will schedule April's meeting in the EOC so the group can easily view the revised Sharel app/WizeHive website on the large screen. Depending on the number of applications received, the Committee may have to meet for 2-hour blocks throughout the summer, similar to 2016's meeting schedule. This will allow for agency presentations before recommendations are made to the City Council. A technical assistance workshop is scheduled for Thursday, March 8 at Renton City Hall for applicants and City representatives. Joy said that although there's been staffing changes at South King Council of Human Services, they'll still provide volunteer readers and assistance to applicants. It is not known if the workshop will be available in any language other than English. IV. ANNOUNCEMENTS • Jason Berry read a card of appreciation to the group from Councilmember John Holman. • The next regular Human Services Committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 26, 2018. V.
