III. MISCELLANEOUS
• New Staff Introduction
o Joy Scott introduced the new Human Services Program Coordinator, Kyla
Wright, who joined the City of Auburn team at the beginning of May. Kyla will
be providing primary staff support to the Human Services Committee, and will
be working directly with our funded nonprofit agencies.
o Kyla gave an overview of her professional experience which includes
foreclosure prevention counseling, leading group workshops, academic
advising and non-profit collaborations in Seattle and King County.
• Quarterly Report Agency Data
o Kyla spoke about trends from the 1st Quarter agency reports. She noticed
several agencies that were impacted by the snow and cold weather. Some
agencies can to cancel workshops and had limited service. There were also
several agencies that are working to increase their presence in Auburn and
build more relationships and trust with the community.
o Committee would like to have more information about the agency reports
throughout the year. Bard Derda asked to see the quarterly reports of programs
that are newly funded by the City. Member Lela Brugger asked to see an Excel
spreadsheet with all of the service unit data for funded agencies. Member
Shanece Dedeaux felt that kind of comprehensive report would be helpful for
committee members to have twice per year, to know how agencies are meeting
their goals at mid-and end of year times.
o Kyla will work to come up with a template for a condensed version of agency
reports for the committee to review at next month's meeting.
• Needs Assessment Update
o Joy updated the committee about the status of the City's Community Needs
Assessment. Since the last update at the Human Services Committee, The
Cloudburst Group has been selected as the consultant to support the Needs
Assessment work. Committee members received a copy of Cloudburst's
proposal to review. Cloudburst will be providing an introductory presentation to
City Council at the June study session, which Joy will bring to the June Human
Services Committee as well.
o Member Tammy Gourdine asked for clarification around the scope of work and
short timeline. Due to Consolidated Planning timeframes, the Assessment will
be expected to conclude by October, with the bulk of stakeholder interviews
and surveys to be conducted June-August.
o Lela requested reminders about future opportunities to engage with Cloudburst
and the Needs Assessment work.
