Project Outline
We are submitting our proposal to partner with the City of Auburn in facilitating ongoing leadership and
organizational development efforts, continuing the process that began in 2023.
One of our core beliefs is that organizations function at their best when everyone in a leadership role is
working from the same set of leadership beliefs and practices (including practicing the "Top 15
Management Skills" referenced below) and when individual contributors are committed to a similar set of
positive, professional team behaviors. When this happens, amazing things occur within the organization:
employees become more engaged, roadblocks and unhelpful behaviors diminish, trust and respect are
built, information is more thoroughly shared, meetings become more effective, and more.
The bottom line is that these organizational transformations can only happen if leaders possess and
sustain strong management and leadership skills.
We are proposing that Nash Consulting:
1.Train an additional cohort of supervisors and managers in best practice management/leadership skills,
using the Nash Consulting Managing with Mind & Heart leadership development curriculum.
2.Provide three full days of skill-building workshops for non-management employees to help build
accountability and buy-in, and provide skills for creating a healthy and positive workplace culture.
3.Partner with your top leadership before the process to build sponsorship and support for the
engagements.
4.Partner with your top leadership during and after the process to strengthen ongoing sponsorship and
continue to create sustainability plans.

Our Leadership Development
Strategies
A Building a Sustainable Effort: Sponsorship Meeting(s) & Coaching with Senior
Leaders
We'll continue to spend time assisting the senior leadership team in providing strong sponsorship for the
upcoming workshop series, which is essential in terms of long-term culture change and sustainability. The
focus of these sessions may include:
Communication strategies regarding the upcoming workshops that will help build strong buy-in and
engagement
Coaching on how to proactively ensure that the skills taught become sustainable in order to avoid a
"flavor-of-the-year" dynamic
Strategies for managing resistance and other change management concepts
B Leadership Workshops (Managing with Mind and Heart)
Creating a healthy and thriving leadership culture requires all leaders to adopt a consistent set of skills,
mindsets, and behaviors. Our Managing with Mind and Heart leadership workshop series plays a crucial
role in achieving this goal. When all leaders within an organization receive training in best practice
management skills and make efforts to sustain them, it leads to numerous benefits, such as improved
morale, productivity, and engagement across the organization. It also fosters greater mutual respect and
trust between leaders and enhances communication and collaboration between departments and
workgroups.
Our leadership workshops go beyond just theory and focus on practical, actionable skills. We prioritize
participant interaction, discussion, and commitment-building to ensure maximum impact. See the next
section for an outline of the Managing with Mind and Heart workshop series)
C Skill-Building Workshops for Employees
We recommend that all employees who will not be participating in the leadership workshops attend two
half-day skill-building "common commitment" workshops. These workshops help organizations get
everyone on the same page in terms of best-practice skills that promote a culture of high morale,
collaboration, accountability, and engagement. Your team members will leave these workshops with
practical skills that support healthy, authentic, respectful work relationships, and high-functioning teams.
Topics may include:
Understand workplace morale – what it is, why it matters, and your part in creating it
Learn key adaptive and emotional IQ skills for building trust and respect
Learn to listen so others feel heard
4
Docusign Envelope ID: AA71EC69-23CF-49FC-9FDA-1208F6A99FDB
Learn to give feedback in a way that maintains trust
Practice receiving feedback with non-defensiveness
Discover the five healthy ways to deal with workplace triangulation and negativity
Discover and gain an appreciation for your own behavior style (i.e., why you're so awesome)
Understand your impact on others as a co-worker (i.e., when others don't recognize your
awesomeness)
Learn the importance of adjusting your style to better meet the needs of others
Identify different behavior styles among co-workers
D Sustainabilit y
Our firm is committed to avoiding a “flavor-of-the-year” approach because we are convinced that this
fosters a sense of cynicism and resistance. To avoid this sort of impact and to create sustainability, Nash
Consulting would work with your team in the following ways:
Action plans/commitments during the training series with each group
Direct training in sustainability practices
Help with the creation of specific sustainability practices and processes

and employee concerns, this workshop provides leaders with the skills necessary for fostering employee
buy-in and an effective and enjoyable workplace environment.
Topics & Skill-Building:

conversations

Session 4 Performance Management
Managers provide feedback in hopes of getting employees to do more of what's working and less of what's
not. But let's be honest: that doesn't always happen. Efforts to provide feedback, even if well-intentioned,
can easily backfire and cause hurt, confusion, and apathy among employees. This workshop equips
managers with techniques that maximize the effectiveness of workplace feedback and coaching.
Topics & Skill-Building:
Explore the ways accountability builds and maintains morale
Discuss the manager's role as mentor and coach
Practice the art of giving feedback in a way that communicates clearly and keeps you connected
relationally
Learn how to have that second and third conversation, when the first one doesnʼt do the trick
Master the art of building relationship while giving challenging feedback
Learn the ten tools for coaching employees toward improved outcomes
Practice performance management skills for coaching employees toward success
Session 5 Workplace Culture - Building for Success
In this workshop, we will start out the day by digging into some important information about the brain,
human needs, and the psychology of workplace culture in our continuing journey toward management
excellence. Weʼll learn why we need to turn our 15 management skills up to 11 in a hybrid work environment
and discuss strategies for achieving fairness, autonomy, employee involvement, reliability, and connection.
Topics & Skill-Building:
Learn the SCARF model as a way to increase psychological safety and achieve employee engagement
Navigate the challenges of managing in a hybrid work environment (if applicable)
Explore ways to build and maintain a fair and equitable workplace
Discover new ways to provide autonomy to your employees
Practice using “by-whens” as a way of building trust through reliability
Learn the six decision-making styles that increase employee buy-in and ownership
Explore the positive power of providing employees with recognition and appreciation

Session 6 Communication and Sustaining Change
In this final workshop, we will tackle the all-important management skill of effective communication in
terms of information distribution, the use (and not over-use) of email, how to become an “information
curator” for your team, how to make it more likely that everyone gets pertinent information (and feels
acceptable for that information), and how to achieve meetings that are both effective and enjoyable.
Finally, weʼll turn our attention to the vital topic of sustainability and how to avoid the “flavor-of-the-year
syndrome” in terms of applying The Top 15 Management Skills to your workplace. Our goal is to work with
you to help ensure that you and your fellow management team members implement and sustain the skills
from this workshop in order to achieve long-term success.
Topics & Skill-Building:
Work on improving your organizationʼs communication and information distribution practices
Create a new set of norms for email use
Learn how to plan and prepare meetings that really work
Become a facilitation rock star for running enjoyable and effective meetings
Learn to effectively sponsor change and create long-term commitment
Plan strategies for sustaining the leadership skills learned throughout this workshop, thereby creating
long-term success.
