Administrative Recommendation:
City Council introduce and adopt Ordinance No. 5748.
Background Summary:
Ordinance No. 5748 amends Auburn City Code Chapter 10.36, Section 310 entitled "Prohibited Parking
Areas - Southeast Auburn" for the purpose of prohibiting parking on a portion of 17th Street SE to
alleviate a sight distance hazard. The sight distance hazard was brought to the attention of the City via a
letter from the President of Meadow Valley Homeowners Association (letter attached). Upon receipt of
the letter, Traffic Engineer Michael Fuess and Traffic Engineering Technician Dave Burdick conducted a
sight distance study at this location, and determined that prohibiting parking in that vicinity would alleviate
the sight distance hazard. The recommendations made in this ordinance are a result of that study.
In addition, staff has notified the affected business and property owner of the proposed change.

A11er our discussion on Jan 3~,2003. I presented my ideas to our Board of Directors that
would help with the safety and visibility at the entrance of Meadow Valley
Condomim'ums to 17t~ st se. They fully support my suggestions and would like the ideas
to help safety implemented as soon as time and weather permits. My suggestion is as
follows:
1)West curb in front of Auburn Rehabilitation Center-Change the existing "passenger
loading only" vehicle parking to"emergency vehicle parking only" from the bus stop to
the radius of our driveway(approx 35tt). Appropriate curb painting and sign posting is
requested.
2)East curb- Extend the 5 feet no parking from the radius of our driveway per RCW to 10
feet. Appropriate curb painting and sign posting is requested.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AUBURN, WASHINGTON, AMENDING AUBURN CITY CODE
CHAPTER 10.36, SECTION 310 ENTITLED "PROHIBITED
PARKING AREAS - SOUTHEAST AUBURN" FOR THE
PURPOSE OF PROHIBITING PARKING ON A PORTION OF
17TM STREET SE TO ALLEVIATE A SIGHT DISTANCE HAZARD.
WHEREAS, a review of the current parking restrictions on 17th Street SE
revealed a need to prohibit parking on a portion of 17th Street SE to alleviate a
sight distance hazard.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN,
WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That Section 10.36.310 of the City of Auburn Code is
amended to read as follows:
10.36.310 Prohibited parking areas - Southeast Auburn.
Southeast Auburn prohibited parking areas are as follows:
2nd Street Southeast, south side, between the east curbline of "H" Street. Southeast
and the west curbline of "J" Street Southeast.
3rd Street Southeast, both sides, between the west curbline of "A" Street Southeast
and the east curbline of Division Street.
4th Street Southeast, north side, from the east curbline of Auburn Way South east to
the westernmost edge of the north-south alley parallel to and between Auburn Way
South and "D" Street Southeast.
12th Street Southeast, north side, between the west curbline of Auburn Way South and
a point west, a distance of 255 feet.
12th Street Southeast, south side, between the west curbline of Auburn Way South
and a point 227 feet west of the west curbline of "H" Street Southeast.
12th Street Southeast, both sides, between the east curbline of Auburn Way South and
a point east, a distance of 307 feet.

Section 2. The Mayor is hereby authorized to implement such
administrative procedures as may be necessary to carry out the directions of
this ordinance.
Section 3. If any portion of this Ordinance or its application to any
person or circumstances is held invalid, the remainder of the Ordinance or the
application of the provision to other persons or circumstances shall not be
affected.
Section 4. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force five (5) days
from and after its passage, approval and publication, as provided by law.
