Department: I Attachments: Budget Impact:
Public WorksI Map and Ordinance No. 5753
Administrative Recommendation:
City Council introduce and adopt Ordinance No. 5753.
Background Summary:
Ordinance No. 5753 amends Auburn City Code Chapter 10.24.010 entitled "One-Way Streets
Designated" to eliminate the following one-way streets:
B Street NE, from East Main to 1st Street NE,
B Street SW, from the south property line of Main Street to 100 feet south thereof.
Since the transit routes have changed, B Street NE no longer needs to be one-way, and should be two-
way to improve access and traffic flow. There is a safety advantage to making B Street NE a two-way
street during the renovation of the JC Penney building. The block between Main and the alley north of
Main will be closed to northbound traffic for the next couple months to accommodate the JC Penney
renovation. Once the contractor renovating the building no longer needs to use the right-of-way, the
remainder of the street will be opened as two-way.
B Street SW has been, and is currently, a two-way street. Sound Transit made this change as part of
their Transit Center Improvements.
