City Council approve Consultant Agreement No. AG -C-136 with Vadis Northwest.
Background Summary:
AG -C-136 is an Annual Consultant Agreement with Vadis Northwest for a 12 -month litter control program
between the City of Auburn and Vadis Northwest, beginning January 1, 2004, and ending December 31,
2004. The City's current agreement with Vadis Northwest is valid through December 31, 2003. The fees
for services under this agreement shall not exceed $74,604.
Vadis Northwest is a non-profit corporation that develops employment opportunities for individuals with
disabilities. The litter crew is made up of five disabled individuals and a crew supervisor who collect trash
and debris along City traveled ways. The contract has been renewed annually since 1991.
Vadis Northwest Litter Crew Accomplishments
1) The litter crew, on a daily average, will remove 35 2.5 -cubic -ft. bags of litter from City traveled ways.
2) Collect 8,100 2.5 -cubic -ft. bags of litter per year.
3) Average bag of litter weighs 30 pounds = 243,000 pounds per year.
4) Annually collect 121 tons of litter from City traveled ways.
5) The litter crew maintains 125 waste receptacles in the City, 30 ash receptacles (for cigarette butts),
and 35 aluminum can recycling receptacles.
6) The litter crew responds to calls on illegal dumping 2 - 3 times per week.
7) The Vadis Northwest crew also fills sandbags as needed.
