Council Ordinance No. 5806
Administrative Recommendation:
City Council introduce and adopt Ordinance No. 5806.
Back,qround Summary
The proposed Ordinance (Ordinance Number 5806) amends Section 2.51.020 of the City Code which
provides for compensation for Councilmembers. The specific changes, however, address the
compensation level for the Mayor Pro Tern, a position selected biennially to coincide with the
commencement of the new City Council (January 1 of the year following Municipal Elections). The
change in compensation for the Mayor Pro Tern reflects an increase from $850.00 per month to $1200.00
per month. This corresponds to the increased duties and utilization imposed upon this position, in
addressing City meeting needs and representative responsibilities. The Ordinance also makes some
slight language changes to the Code Section so as to clarify its terms (identifying more precisely when a
Councilmember or the Mayor Pro Tem would be "eligible" to receive the increased compensation - those
elected after certain dates).
