Background Summary: Each City is required by Federal Law to have a Hazardous Mitigation Plan approved by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) by November 1, 2004 as per the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000. If a plan is not in place and adopted by November 1, 2004, there is a possibility of a reduced level of funding from the Federal Government for Hazard Mitigation. There is also a possibility in the future that recovery funds may be reduced if there is not a plan in place.
