Administrative Recommendation
City Council to approve the Hazard Mitigation Plan recently completed by City staff with assistance from
consultant Jamie Gravelle and forward it to the King County Office of Emergency Management for
approval.
Background Summary:
Each City is required by Federal Law to have a Hazardous Mitigation Plan approved by FEMA (Federal
Emergency Management Agency) by November 1, 2004 as per the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000.
If a plan is not in place and adopted by November 1, 2004, there is a possibility of a reduced level of
funding from the Federal Government for Hazard Mitigation.
There is also a possibility in the future that recovery funds may be reduced if there is not a plan in place.
