City Council award Contract 03-01, Project Number C303A, 41 St. SE and A St. SE Capacity
Improvements, to Dennis R. Craig Construction on their low bid of $266,766.06
Background Summary:
This project will construct a new right turn lane, new sidewalk, and two new signal poles to significantly

improve the operation of the 41 Street SE and A Street SE signal. The necessary rights needed from
BNSF are complete.
We anticipate construction starting in August and finishing in October 2004.
Bids were higher than anticipated, the major difference in costs is in the signal modification and traffic
control.

Time is critical to complete these improvements at 41 and A Street SE due to the proposed construction
of C Street SW. It is not likely that re-bidding the project would reduce the costs.
A project increase of $45,104 within the 102 fund/account will be necessary; however it will not require a
budget adjustment since it is anticipated that the budgeted expenditures in the 102 fund/account will not
be exceeded this year.
