Backaround Summary:
The City of Auburn has received a request from Steve Nichols on behalf of 12 property owners to start the
annexation process on several parcels of King County property that is located west of the current City
limits, west of 59th Avenue South. The area is within the City's potential annexation area.
The recommendation of staff is that the boundaries be drawn to include that portion of the unincorporated
potential annexation area that is within the potential annexation area and that includes the parcels on the
petition, as shown on the attached vicinity map and exhibit.
The requested annexation is in the vicinity of the "Steven Blake" annexation request (ANX01-0002),
which was in process at the time of original decision in Grant County Fire Protection District v. Moses
Lake (145 Wn.2d 702 (2002)), which precluded the petition method of annexation (later reversed). The
staff recommended boundary would include the previous annexation envisioned under City file no
ANX02-0001.
At their meeting on August 10, 2004, the Planning an Community Development Committee reviewed the
request, modified the boundaries to accommodate additional land to provide a logical boundary, and
recommended approval of the annexation.
