Administrative Recommendation:
City Council to grant permission to enter into Consultant Agreement No. AG -C-237 with HNTB
Corporation for design and construction services for work related to Project No. C307A, Intelligent
Transportation System Improvements.
Background Summary:
This project will allow for efficient special event traffic management and incident management and
includes the following elements:
• A communications system that will enable signal coordination, video transmission and data collection
along the Auburn Way South and the S 277th Street Corridors.
• Construction of a Traffic Management Center at the City of Auburn Maintenance and Operations
Facility. This structure will be used to house the equipment and operations of the Intelligent
Transportation System.
• Provide a fiber optic connection between the WSDOT and King County ITS infrastructure allowing for
data and video sharing as appropriate between the City of Auburn, WSDOT and King County Traffic
Control Centers. This will also allow for the display of traffic conditions in the City of Auburn on the
WSDOT and King County commuter web pages.
Staff has selected HNTB to provide design and construction support services for this project. The
anticipated cost for these professional services is $400,000.
