Administrative Recommendation:
City Council introduce and adopt Ordinance 5875.
Background Summary:
The recently established Urban Tree Board has held three meetings since its inception and on two of
those occasions one member was absent. The Board, following the direction of the Mayor and City
Council, has decided that their main focus will be education of the public in matters of trees, tree care,
and plantings of public spaces and support of staff in this effort.
In their attempt to provide a diverse and knowledgeable basis for this endeavor, they have stated that
having additional members to the Board would be advantageous. They have listened to representatives
from other city's expressing their experiences in approaching similar goals, and have stated their desire to
ask the Council to add at least two additional members to this Board. The additional members will ensure
a quorum and provide a more diverse knowledge base. The additional members will also bring a more
varied approach to the community.
