Agenda Subject: Mayoral Authority, Ordinance No. 5914
Date: April 12, 2005
Department: I Attachments: Ordinance No. 5914
Legal
Administrative Recommendation:
Budget Impact:
City Council introduce and adopt Ordinance No. 5914.
Background Summary:
The current provisions of the Auburn City Code provide certain identified levels of authority for the Mayor,
including the obligation and responsibility to execute certain contracts on behalf of the City. Furthermore,
that authority includes an authorization to execute contracts up to $25,000 or as approved in the City's
budget. It would be helpful, therefore, to include in the provisions dealing with the powers and duties of
the mayor, generally, to reference the authority to negotiate contracts within those financial and scoping
perimeters. The proposed language seeks to reference the financial authorization for contracts, and
specifically includes the authority to negotiate contracts that are not yet concluded in terms of their
negotiative process.
