Recreation and Open Date: February 22, 2005 Space Plan Department: Parks and Attachments: Resolution No. 3831 Budget Impact: Recreation Administrative Recommendation: City Council adopt Resolution No. 3831 Background Summary: Every six years the City looks at its parks and recreation facilities and programs to evaluate how they are performing, how they can be improved, and providing an up -date to the City of Auburn Comprehensive Planning process. The demand for recreational space increases with the population and it is no longer relegated to being week -end opportunities. Citizens are using our parks and programs seven days a week; and the age of the facility users is diverse. Review of the existing facilities and programs, as well as additions to our system, are necessary to meet the needs of all users. This plan is intended to take a fresh look at where we are and to make plans for the direction in which we want to take our facilities and programs over the next six years. By involving the Parks and Recreation Board, surveying the users at two public meetings, conducting a community citizen's attitude and interest survey, and making plans for the coming years, we will be able to provide appropriate services to our citizens. There are three objectives to be achieved through the production of a parks plan: Provide guidance for the Parks and Recreation Department. Provide input to the Citywide Capital Facilities Plan Maintain funding eligibility for grants With these goals in mind, we are asking the Council to accept the newest plan to guide the Department in upcoming decisions related to our facilities and programs.
