Department: Parks and
Attachments: Ordinance 5921
Budget Impact:
Recreation
Administrative Recommendation:
City Council introduce and adopt Ordinance 5921.
Background Summary:
The use of skateboards, roller skates and coasters in Les Gove Park has become a growing problem to
both users of the park, participants at the Senior Center, Library, Museum, and Parks and Recreation
Administration Building, as well as to those driving in the area. In an effort to increase the safety of all
visitors to the Les Gove Campus, it has become necessary to implement a limitation to the use of
skateboards, roller skates and coasters.
Ordinance 5921 prohibits the use of these conveyances along the streets, sidewalks and limit them to the
pedestrian trail in the park. The Parks Department is in the process of working with the local users to
develop a skatepark in the area, which will give them additional area in which to practice their art. This
ordinance provides a degree of protection for other users in the park and allows the police a means by
which those who disobey the rules can be cited.
