Background Summary: At the July 5, 2005 City Council meeting, State Senator Pam Roach made a presentation regarding an effort to acquire certain Puget Sound Energy property for recreational and wildlife refuge purposes. At that meeting Senator Roach identified the public benefit that could be achieved through acquisition of the property, as well as the economic benefit that might accrue to nearby jurisdictions. Senator Roach encouraged the City of Auburn to pass a resolution in support of the acquisition. At their meeting on July 25, 2005, the Planning and Community Development Committee recommended approval. Purpose. The City Council of the City of Auburn hereby encourages the preservation of the above described property for use as a future regional park along the White River in western Washington. Section 2. Implementation. The Mayor is hereby authorized to direct staff to initiate activities as may be appropriate to provide assistance to support this effort. The Mayor will also keep the City Council informed as to activities related in support of this effort. Section 3. Effective Date.
