Administrative Recommendation:
City Council adopt Resolution No. 3895.
Background Summary:
Cities of the "Valleys" have many common features and partnerships that date back to the beginning of
our cities more than 100 years ago. Our roads and rivers, farms and parks have been formed and
improved jointly over decades as good stewards of our lands. Representatives of the cities of the Green,
White and Puyallup River Valleys began meeting in December of 2004. The gathering of these
jurisdictions into a common unit would present a more forceful presence in terms of effecting changes
necessary for their benefit regionally and across the state.
Resolution No. 3895 authorizes the Mayor to work with the Mayors and administrators for the Cities of
Fife, Puyallup, Sumner, Algona, Pacific, Kent, Renton and Tukwila to form a "Valley Cities Association" to
provide the framework for working together on common issues.

RESOLUTION NO. 3 8 9 5
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, SUPPORTING
THE FORMATION OF A VALLEY CITIES'
ASSOCIATION
WHEREAS, for the last number of years, there has been greater
interaction between the cities of Fife, Puyallup, Sumner, Auburn, Algona, Pacific,
Kent, Renton and Tukwila, relative to a variety of issues with which they contend

WHEREAS, in order to be more effective in best determining how to
address problems that these cities have in common, it would be advantageous
for them to coordinate their efforts, combining resources and uniting in collective
responses; and
WHEREAS, in addition to the joint efforts that could be given by the cities
to address common problems, the gathering of these jurisdictions into a common
unit would present a more forceful presence in terms of effecting changes
necessary for their benefit regionally and across the state.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN,
HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The Mayor is hereby authorized to work with the mayors,
