Memorandum of Agreement
Administrative Recommendation:
City Council adopt Resolution 3887.
Background Summary:
Resolution 3887 authorizes the Mayor to execute an Agreement between Senior Services of Seattle/King
County, a non-profit corporation, and the City of Auburn to provide seniors, aged 55 and older, with
information, education, and assistance on a variety of legal consumer and health insurance issues
through its Senior Rights Assistance component. Senior Rights is a peer assistance program that trains
senior volunteers to provide information with which senior consumers can make informed decisions
based on their own unique needs, values, and circumstances. When required, a volunteer can provide
advocacy on a client's behalf. Senior Rights can also connect qualifying low-income clients with free and
low-cost attorney services when the client is unable to resolve legal issues without the services of an
attorney.
Senior Rights has provided the above-mentioned services at the Senior Center for many years. There is
no charge to senior clients. As the agreement indicates, primary Senior Center responsibilities include
providing space and scheduling appointments.
