Background Summary:
The City opened bids on August 30th for the repair of a portion of the City Hall plaza. There was only one
bid received in the amount of $76,672.45 submitted by Performance Landscaping of Kent. The
engineer's estimate was $55,372.25.
The City sent out requests of interest to all relevant concrete contractors that are on the small works
roster. Eight responded and were sent the bid package.
The bid received was an irregular bid; however, the City may choose to waive the irregular bid if they feel
it is in the best interest of the City. In addition, since only one bid was received and it was substantially
above the engineer's estimate the Council may consider awarding the bid or rejecting all bids
The project will consist of replacing the concrete and brick pavers at the front and back entrances of City
Hall. The project will extend from either door to the top of the first set of stairs and essentially will just
replace (in-kind) the existing materials and will retain the existing design. The purpose of this, project is to
provide for a better storm drainage system that will prevent the leaking of rain into the basement (this
means we.can get rid of the brown tarp in the landscaping), it will also correct the settling of the plaza
away from the building and therefore eliminate any tripping hazards. The project will also replace all of
the bricks with thicker ones again eliminating any tripping hazards that now exist with the broken bricks.
This limited scope project should not interfere with or influence any future project associated with the
remainder of the plaza.
