Administrative Recommendation:
City Council conduct the public hearing and approve the annexation (see Resolution No. 3876 for further
action on this item).
Background Summary:
In May 2005 the City of Auburn accepted an "Application for Annexation" from Steve Nichols (32516 58th
Avenue South) for two parcels that he owns which is located adjacent to the west boundary of the city
limits up on West Hill. The parcels (Parcel #9262800210 and Parcel #9262800280) are each
approximately 4.5 acres. The total area of the annexation is nine acres. Mr. Nichols currently resides on
one of the parcels. He plans to subdivide the property.
City staff prepared the annexation petition. In June 2005 City received the signed petition back from Mr.
Nichols. On June 14th the King County Assessor certified the petition was sufficient to meet the statutory
requirements for the 60% petition method of annexation.
On August 1 the City Council held a public hearing on the proposed annexation. Since the Nichols
annexation will depend upon the outcome of the Stipp annexation for its street access, the City Council
moved to continue the public hearing at the same time it hears public testimony about the Stipp
Annexation. The public hearing on the Stipp Annexation is scheduled for September 19.
Staff request the Council consider the petition and, if accepted, pass Resolution 3876 authorizing filing
the City of Auburn's intent to the two parcels referred to as the Nichols annexation. If the Review Board
finds the proposed annexation acceptable, then an ordinance to effect the annexation will be prepared
and submitted to Council for review and approval.
