Agenda Subject: Public Art Site Selection
Date: May 3, 2006
Department: Parks, Arts and
Attachments: Resolution No. 4029
Budget Impact:
Recreation
Administrative Recommendation:
City Council adopt Resolution No. 4029.
Background Summary:
Cultural Programs staff and members of the Auburn Arts Commission met to discuss 2007 proposed sites
for public art. In the past, discussions of integrating public art with Public Works projects and new
construction have proved appropriate. At the invitation of Parks, Arts, and Recreation Director Daryl
Faber, we discussed making the new clubhouse at the Auburn Golf Course the 2007 Public .Arts Project.
The members of the Auburn Arts Commission recommend this site for their 2007 project. Potential public
arts elements for this site could include a vertical element(s) along the entrance path, integrated walkway
treatments, installation in the lobby and/or rotating two-dimensional visual art gallery.
The Auburn Arts Commission would like to explore additional funding in conjunction with the annual
budget of $30,000 (REET funding) for new Public Art projects to appropriately match the scale and scope
of the proposed clubhouse design.
Our plans call for artists to be chosen through a competitive selection process in accordance with the
procedures set up by the City of Auburn Arts Commission. Coordinating with the project manager, staff
and Commission members will select and recommend to Council the artist selected to design, fabricate
and install artwork at the chosen site.
