Background Summary:
The City was awarded an FHWA Intersection & Corridor Safety Program grant administered through the
Washington State Department of Transportation in the amount of $250,000 to finance the design and
construction of a traffic signal at the intersection of R Street NE and 8th Street NE. This grant does not
require a match.
The signal is warranted due to the traffic volumes on R Street NE and 8th Street NE and will increase the
safety of this intersection by helping to mitigate a number of collision types.

RESOLUTION NO. 4106
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AUBURN, WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO
ACCEPT A FEDERAL HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION GRANT
ADMINISTERED THROUGH THE WASHINGTON STATE
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR A TRAFFIC
SIGNAL AT THE INTERSECTION OF R STREET NE AND

WHEREAS, the City desires to install traffic control devices at intersections where
warranted; and
WHEREAS, the traffic volumes and accident history at the intersection of R Street
NE and 8th Street NE warrant a traffic signal; and
WHEREAS, the City applied for and was awarded a Federal Highway
Administration (FHWA) Intersection & Corridor Safety Program grant administered
through the Washington State Department of Transportation in the amount of $250,000
to finance the design and construction of a traffic signal at the intersection of R Street
NE and 8th Street NE; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City to use grant monies to finance
transportation improvements.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN,
WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES as follows:
Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to accept an FHWA grant
administered through WSDOT for $250,000 to design and construct a traffic signal at
the intersection of R Street NE and 8th Street NE.

Section 2. That the Mayor is authorized to implement such other administrative
procedures as may be necessary to carry out the directives of this legislation.
Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in full force upon
passage and signatures hereon.
