City Council approve Final Pay Estimate #2 to Emergency Contract 07-01 in the amount of $2,539.31, for
a total contract price of $9,184.40, with VLS Construction, Inc. and accept construction of Project No.
CP0722, 3rd Street NE Hydrant DamaQe.
Background Summary:
On December 30, 2006, Maintenance and Operations staff responded to an emergency call from the Fire
Department about a fire hydrant at 3rd and 'B' Streets NE as the fire hydrant had been struck by an errant
vehicle. Upon notification of the Mayor, an emergency condition was determined to exist and VLS
Construction, Inc., was called out to make repairs. The contractor was called upon to perform the work in
accordance with RCW 39.04.280(1 )(c), which allows for waiver of competitive bidding requirements in
emergency situations, and Auburn City Code 13.10.050, which authorizes the Mayor to enter into
emergency contracts. These determinations were ratified by the Auburn City Council on January 16,
2007, through Resolution No. 4137.
The scope of work included removal of the broken concrete sidewalk panels, repair of the water main,
replacement of the fire hydrant and pipe, replacement of the subgrade, backfilling, replacement of the
concrete sidewalk, and repair of the roadway and lawn. This work will be paid from the City's General
Fund and restitution from the driver will be sought.
