AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, AMENDING
SECTION 2.24.020 OF THE AUBURN CITY CODE
RELATING TO IDENTIFICATION OF OFFICERS
AND POSITIONS IN THE AUBURN POLICE
DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, historically, the City of Auburn, like other cities, used a
traditional paramilitary demarcation regarding the ranks and positions of officers
within the police department, including police chief, captain, lieutenant, sergeant
and patrolman; and
WHEREAS, however, in order to more adequately address the current
operational needs of the department, it is appropriate to expand the position title
descriptions to add deputy police chief, assistant police chief and commander, as
well as re-identify the position earlier known as patrolman to "police officer."
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN,
WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN as follows:
Section 1. Amendment to City Code.
That section 2.24.020 of
the Auburn City Code be and the same hereby is amended to read as follows:
2.24.020 Law enforcement officer and city police officer defined.
"Law enforcement officer" and "city police officer" cover such regular, full-
time personnel of the police department who have been appointed to offices,
positions or ranks of the police department which are herewith expressly created:
A. Chief of ~Police;
B. Deputy Police Chief;
C. Assistant Police Chief;
D. Commander;
E. Captain;

Patrolmen Police Officer. (Ord. 33579 1, 1979; 1957 code S
Section 2. Implementation. The Mayor is hereby authorized to
implement such administrative procedures as may be necessary to carry out the
directions of this legislation.
Section 3. Severability.
The provisions of this ordinance are
declared to be separate and severable. The invalidity of any clause, sentence,
paragraph, subdivision, section or portion of this ordinance, or the invalidity of the
application thereof to any person or circumstance shall not affect the validity of
the remainder of this ordinance, or the validity of its application to other persons
or circumstances.
Section 4. Effective date.
This Ordinance shall take effect and be
in force five days from and after its passage, approval and publication as
provided by law.
