Background Summary: King County Councilmember Peter von Reichbauer introduced a charter amendment to the King County Council that would give the voters the opportunity to change the designation of certain political officers in King County from partisan to non-partisan. Pursuant to RCW 42.17.130, the City Council is entitled to express its collective position on ballot measures, including giving persons at the public meeting at which the collective expression is given the opportunity to state opposing views. Resolution No. 4179 expresses the Council support for the proposition to make King County elective offices non-partisan to the full extent permitted by law. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, HEREBY RESOLVES as follows: Section 1. That the City Council hereby expresses its support for the proposition to make King County elective offices non-partisan to the full extent permitted by law. Section 2. That the Mayor is authorized to implement such administrative procedures as may be necessary to carry out the directives of this legislation. Section 3. If any portion or its application to any person or circumstances held invalid, the remainder of the resolution or the application of its provisions to other persons or circumstances shall not be affected.
