City Council grant permission to implement a contract by negotiation of Contract 06-25, Project No.
CP0627, 2006 Pedestrian Crossing Improvements Project.
Background Summary:
The project consists of constructing two pedestrian crossings, one on East Main Street, in the vicinity of
the Auburn High School Performing Arts Center, and one on I Street NE, in the vicinity of 18th Street NE
and Top Foods. Both crosswalks will have significant safety enhancements to accentuate the pedestrian
crossing zone. Construction for this project is anticipated to begin in July 2007 and be completed in
August 2007.
This project initially solicited bids under the small works roster process on June 5, 2007, in which no bids
were received. Staff subsequently held a formal call for bids per ACC 3.12.020 (advertising procedures).
The bid opening was held on June 26, 2007, and no bids were received, therefore City staff is requesting
permission to begin negotiating a contract with a selected contractor to complete the construction of the
two pedestrian facilities as allowed by ACC 3.12.020.
A project increase of $41,325 within the 102 fund will be necessary; however, it will not require a budget
adjustment due to the deferment of other projects previously listed under this account.
