Administrative Recommendation:
City Council award Negotiated Contract 06-25, Project No. CP0627, 2006 Pedestrian Crossing
Improvements Project, to Transtech Electric, Inc. on their quote of $82,599.50.
Background Summary:
The project consists of constructing two pedestrian crossings, one on East Main Street, in the
vicinity of the Auburn High School Performing Arts Center, and one on I Street NE, in the vicinity
of 18th Street NE and Top Foods. Both crosswalks will have significant safety enhancements to
accentuate the pedestrian crossing zone. Construction for this project is anticipated to begin in
September 2007 and be completed in September 2007.
This project initially solicited bids under the small works roster process on June 5, 2007, in
which rio bids were received. Staff subsequently held a formal call for bids per ACC 3.12.020
(Advertising procedures). The bid opening was held on June 26, 2007 and again no bids were
received. City staff requested permission to begin negotiating a Contract with a selected
Contractor, on June 27, 2007, as allowed by ACC 3.12.020. Two Contractors were contacted
and Transtech Electric, Inc. provided the lowest quote.
A project increase of $62,429 within the 102 fund will be necessary; however, it will not require a
budget adjustment due to the deferment of other projects previously listed under this account.
