Background Summary:
The City received a federal Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) grant through the Puget Sound
Regional Council in the amount of $290,000 to partially fund the Intelligent Transportation System Project,
which allows signals on Auburn's arterial street network to be remotely controlled from the Traffic
Management Center. The grant requires a 13.5% match, which the City has budgeted.
The remainder of the project has been financed with a combination of Federal Highway Administration
grant funds, a Public Works Trust Fund loan, contributions from the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe and King
County, and City funds.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AUBURN, WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO
ACCEPT A FEDERAL CONGESTION MITIGATION AIR
QUALITY GRANT FOR THE INTELLIGENT
TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM PROJECT
WHEREAS, the City desires to improve traffic operations; and
WHEREAS, the City has programmed the Intelligent Transportation Systems
(ITS) project; and
WHEREAS, the City applied for and was granted a federal Congestion Mitigation
Air Quality (CMAQ) grant through the Puget Sound Regional Council in the amount of
$290,000 to partially finance the ITS project; and
WHEREAS, the City has financed the remainder of the project with a combination
of Federal Highway Administration grant funds, a Public Works Trust Fund loan,
contributions from the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe and King County, and City funds; and
WHEREAS the CMAQ grant requires a local match of 13.5%, which the City has
programmed in its budget; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City to use grant monies to finance
transportation improvements.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN,
WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES as follows:

Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to accept the Congestion
Mitigation Air Quality grant for $290,000 with a required local match of 13.5% to help
finance the Intelligent Transportation System project.
Section 2. That the Mayor is authorized to implement such other administrative
procedures as may be necessary to carry out the directives of this legislation.
Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in full force upon
passage and signatures hereon.
