Background Summary: The federal government, through the Washington Service Corps, makes Ready*Corps VISTA members available on a full-time basis to local jurisdictions to assist with disaster education. The cost to host one of their members is $5000 per year and the member works a regular 40 hour per week schedule, with their pay and benefits provide by the State. This member is used by the City of Auburn to manage and present disaster education to both the public and employees. The year of service runs from September 1 to August 31. Information Services Action: Committee Approval: ?Yes ?No Council Approval: ?Yes ?No Call for Public Hearing Referred to Until Tabled Until Councilmember: Cerino Staff: Kell Meeting Date: June 2, 2008 Item Number: VIII.B.2 AUBURN* MORE THAN YOU IMAGINED RESOLUTION NO. 4358 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A GRANT FROM THE WASHINGTON SERVICE CORPS TO PROVIDE A FULL-TIME MEMBER TO THE CITY OF AUBURN, AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY AGREEMENTS TO ACCEPT SAID MEMBER WHEREAS, the City of Auburn has an office of Emergency Management, dedicated to preparing the City and its residents for disaster; and WHEREAS, the Washington Service Corps provides full-time disaster education members through the AmeriCorps VISTA ReadyCorps program; and WHEREAS, the City of Auburn desires to provide comprehensive disaster education to Auburn residents; and WHEREAS, the City of Auburn has been accepted as a host site for a 2008/2009 VISTA member, with a required local match of $5000, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Purpose. The City Council of the City of Auburn hereby accepts a grant from the Washington Service Corps of one VISTA member, from September 1, 2008 to August 31, 2009. Section 2. Implementation. The Mayor of the City of Auburn is hereby authorized to implement such administrative procedures as may be necessary to carry out the directions of this resolution.
