SPECIAL WORKSHOP MEETING MINUTES
CALL TO ORDER
A joint dinner meeting of the City of Federal Way and City of Auburn
Councils was held at the Federal Way Community Center, Senior Lounge,
located at 876 South 333`d Street, Federal Way, Washington for the
purpose of discussing common issues of interest.
The meeting was convened at 6:07 p.m. and the following officials were
present:
City of Federal Way
Mayor Jack Dovey, Deputy Mayor Eric Faison, and the following
Councilmembers were present: Mike Park, Jeanne Burbidge, Jim Ferrell,
and Linda Kochmar. Also present was City Manager Neal Beets.
City of Auburn
Mayor Peter B. Lewis and the following Councilmembers were present:
Rich Wagner, Lynn Norman, Gene Cerino, Nancy Backus, and Bill
Peloza.
Items Discussed of Mutual Concern
A. Transportation
Mayor Lewis discussed the transportation problems between the cities
of Federal Way and Auburn with regard the lack of King County Metro
east and west bus routes.
B. Graffiti
Mayor Dovey reported that the City of Federal Way passed an
ordinance making possession of graffiti tools an offense. As an
example, teens walking away from a graffiti scene with a backpack full
of spray cans, tape, etc., could be charged.

In addition Federal Way has taken the fine off the victim. The victim
may choose to paint their property or the City will paint it one of five
colors. Victims must paint the graffiti within 48 hours or the City will
paint it.
There was also discussion on how Federal Way created a part-time
position for graffiti removal. They are in the process of testing a graffiti
eradication machine that removes graffiti from most surfaces.
C. Performing Arts Center
Mayor Dovey provided an update on this project.
D. Collaboration Between Councils
Both cities agreed that the joint meeting was very effective and they
would like to have another meeting to be hosted by the City of Auburn.
III. Adjournment
There being no further discussion, the meeting adjourned at 8:12 p.m.
