Background Summary: The purpose of this project is to patch sections of arterial roadways to improve poor sections and slow the deterioration of the road. The initial contract included 16th Street NE, West Valley Highway, and R Street SE, and work in those three locations is substantially complete. Change Order #2 added C Street NW, between 3rd Street NW and 15th Street NW, which is scheduled for completion in September 2008. Change Order #3 would add a portion of Howard Road adjacent to Auburn Way South, and would be of a similar nature to the work already completed by this project. Adding Howard Road would avoid further problems in that location as these roadway sections continue to age. In addition, the remainder of Howard Road can be included in the Arterial Crack Seal Project. Construction on Howard Road is projected to start in September 2008, and take an additional three to five days to be completed. Funding for the project includes $525,000 from the 2007-2008 Budget and $300,000 from the newly enacted 1 % Utility Tax. The utility tax funds were included in Budget Amendment No 14.
