DISCUSSION
A. Review Artists' Proposal
Public Artist Virginia Paquette presented the Committee with several
sketches of art work she has designed for the Community Center. The main
theme is the flowing together of two rivers. There is a shape of the river in
the floor that moves through the center of the building from the entrance to
the back entrance. Other themes being considered are wood and glass. In
keeping with the floor theme, she showed a design of a stack of float glass
that has the same curve which will be suspended from the beams over the

receptionist area. It was noted by the Committee that the welcoming theme
about the art is very important. Virginia conducted a search on salvaged
wood and reproduced wood and feels this is a good way to introduce wood
into the environment and by using some wood on the fireplace in the galleria.
There was some discussion on lighting and how the float glass would affect
lighting. Tom Bates of BLRB said by looking at the sketches, it will help
BLRB on how they select and design the lighting.
Chair Wagner asked Tom to have Greg Lee of BLRB to model Virginia's
sketches to get a better idea on how it looks when you come through the front
door of the building. Tom requested from Virginia a more refined layout and
design of her sketches so that BLRB can put them into a model.
The next regular Committee meeting will be scheduled for mid-November.
