Agenda Subject: Naming Recommendation for Neighborhood Park on Date: October 2, 2008
the Northwest Corner of Lakeland Hills Way and Evergreen SE
Department: Parks, Arts and Attachments: Resolution No. 4404 Budget Impact:
Recreation
Administrative Recommendation:
City Council adopt Resolution No. 4404.
Background Summary:
A neighborhood park constructed at the northwest corner of Lakeland Hills Way and Evergreen SE is
nearing completion. The City of Auburn website, as well as the Lakeland Hills Homeowners Association
website, offered citizens the opportunity to recommend names for this park. A number of residents made
recommendations, which were presented to the members of the Auburn Parks and Recreation Board,
evaluated, and one selected for recommendation.
Last year recognition was given to Dorothy Marion Bothell, and her birthday celebrated, when she turned
100 on February 1, 2007. As the first female City Councilmember, she was appointed in 1950. She also
served on the Cemetery Board for 18 years. She epitomized the contribution made by an involved and
civic minded citizen. She earned the respect and admiration of her constituency with her experience,
knowledge and community spirit.
For her contribution to the Auburn Community, the Auburn Parks and Recreation Board recommends that
her dedication further be recognized by naming our newest park in her honor, Dorothy Bothell Park.
