Authorize the equipment purchase and repair of the golf course pumphouse computer system.
Background Summary: "
During the 2007 budget process, a program improvement was proposed and denied to replace the 1985
Allen-Bradley Panel View pumphouse computer. The system operates and controls the flow to all the
pumps and irrigation systems on the golf course. That system has now failed.
The computer directs two systems - the upper and lower systems. The lower system has failed and need
replacement or repair. A new system would cost $75,000 with a life expectancy of 15 years; repairs to
the current system would be approximately $44,000, making some of it new and some refurbished. The
replacement costs are estimated at $12,000 for the processor, $15,000 for a BFD drive unit, two
transducers at $600, and $3,000 for a refurbished panel display. The balance of the cost would be for
labor and supplies. This repair is expected to extend the life of the system for another ten years. The
technology would be at a 1995 level and we would have periodic replacements of switches and starters.
The life of the five motors may or may not be reduced.
Staff recommends that we implement the repair of the existing system at a cost of $44,000 plus labor and
supplies. The cost of these repairs would come from line item transfers to the current budget: $25,000
from part-time labor; $12,000 from small tools/minor equipment, equipment /supplies; and $5,000 made
up of $2,000 from travel and $3,000 from repairs and maintenance.
We request that Council authorize the repairs to the Golf Course Pumphouse Computer System as
outlined.
