Background Summary: Especially now, in this current economic downturn, it is important for people to purchase products produced locally and domestically so as to support the economic engines that could move our economy on to a healthier position. Resolution No. 4483, promotes to the extent reasonably possible and within the parameters provided by law, a statement of support for the purchase of the domestically produced products. There are limitations on what cities and other public agencies can do in terms of how the purchase certain products, however, to the extent that it can be done under the law, this resolution includes a statement of support for the purchase of domestic products. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, HEREBY RESOLVES as follows: Section 1. The City of Auburn will work to encourage the creation of American jobs and restoring economic growth and opportunity by spending funds on products and services that both create jobs and help keep Americans employed, to the extent permitted by law. That the City of Auburn shall endeavor to purchasing only products and services that are made or performed in the United States of America whenever and wherever possible, within the limits of the law. Section 3. That the Mayor is authorized to implement such administrative procedures as may be necessary to carry out the directives of this legislation. Section 4.
