The Center would foster accelerated training programs in health care and business enterprises. The building is strategically located in Auburn's proposed Health Care District, ~ adjacent to Aubum Regional Medical Center (ARMC) in the downtown core. ~ # ~f'2L `5 a w.nk 1 f" ~?'^Y F m Proiect Description ~0 The proposed Health Care Training & Business Accelerator Center would continue supportive re-use f'~~`"~ of Auburn's Histonc Post Office, most recently occuPied bY a CountY Public Health extension offce. The Post Office was originally constructed in 1937 as a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project and later granted to the County by the federal government ~ e~ ~ ~y~ ~ y~, r„~ ~ for the sole purpose of health care. The facility, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and Washington Heritage Register, currently has 20+ exam rooms, 4 large conference rooms, marbled reception area and security vault. The building sits in Auburn's downtown core and is vacant. Green River Community College, the Medical Center, and the Workforce Health Care Institute support city efforts to continue health care training and accelerator business center uses. To succeed at this effort, the following building improvements would need to occur: 1. protection of historic features, 2. retrofitting for current earthquake standards; 3. ensuring compliance with American Disabilities (ADA); 4. improving energy efficiencies through mechanical, lighting and window glazing, 5. if appropriate; construct tenant improvements; install ~ communication and other infrastructure; 6. evaluating structural components; 7. implementing as much green technology as the historic structure and site - would support; 8. refurbishing interior and exterior historic components. After renovation, the city in conjunction with the Medical Center and Community College would open the center to benefit health care a, r professionals (information technology experts, nurses, etc.), businesses, special work force entities ` 7 and patients.
